Baby Killers?

This is a very heart warming video of an American soldier playing with children in Iraq.

From the source: “Everyone wants to hate on soldiers calling us baby killers and how all the citizens despise us. Hmmm this day it didn’t seem like it. These are real videos from our unit 3rd ID, 6/8 CAV – Operation Iraqi Freedom III.”

Chocolate for Soldiers that Melts in your Mouth, not in your Hands

VITAMIN-packed dark chocolate which won’t melt in the heat of battle and will last for years is being developed for Australian soldiers.

Scientists from the Defense Science and Technology Organization at Scottsdale in Tasmania are working on a new super-chocolate for army ration packs.

“From a nutritionist’s point of view we would love to give the soldiers a fresh meal every day,” Helen Ward of DSTO said. “But logistics don’t always allow that — and we don’t want our soldiers to die of malnutrition when they are in a foxhole feeling hungry.”

Ms. Ward said the idea of supplying troops with chocolate had psychological and physiological advantages.

“We could just give them a pill containing the same vitamins but it would be nothing like giving them real food. Chocolate has long been regarded as a treat, something to look forward to and something that would provide a mental and physical boost.

“That’s why this is being developed to withstand the elements.”

Normal chocolate melts at about 80F — 90F (25C — 30C) but she said the new version would be expected to maintain its uniformity for extended periods at above 128F (49C).

  4. Hey Jeramy, I have no knowledge of Minstrels, but if you do, we’d love to hear about it! As for Matesers, I know plenty about them — chocolate coated balls of malt flavored sponge toffee, keee.

Kim, chocolate is one of my main food groups :) To think of life without chocolate — you may as well kill me now!

Happy Mother’s Day to you too! I guess it must be Sunday already in Down Under. As for your meme, is it anything I can twist so that it’s something I can blog about that would be something readers could enjoy?

  5. The exercise video is so funny!

More of those American soldier video must be circulated so that people will have a different view of what the soldiers in Iraq are doing.

  6. I agree Culture Shoik. It reveals much more of the human element.

  9. Getting to interact with the local children like that is usually good for pr but it also helps the soldier. I know when I have had the chance to be in a local village here in Afghanistan, just to hear the kids laugh or see the way that they react to us helps me almost feel normal. Just to get to hear a child laugh eases the stress of having to be here, thousands of miles away from family, just a little and every little bit helps.

  10. I used to live near the American base Near Angeles in the Philippines and saw a lot of good things happen because the soldiers were there. Local businesses thrived and there was a feeling of a city that was expanding.

When the volcano erupted and the Americans left it became a desolate and often dangerous city.
