Do You Know Where Your Cats Are Tonight – The Catcam Does
Welcome back!
If you’re a cat owner, I’m sure you’ve had some anguishing times wondering where your cats may be. Or maybe you’re just simply curious where they prowl when left to their own devices, away for hours on end.
Well your curiosity has certainly gotten this cat. An ingenious pet owner has come up with a device to put an end to your qualms and quandaries. Introducing the ‘Catcam’ — which takes pictures every 90 seconds as your fickle feline romps the roads.
Inventor Juergen Perthold’s pictures reveal the now infamous Mr. Lee crawling beneath vehicles, prowling secret dens, meeting other felines, eyeing tree houses and spying upon bird houses — and even coming face to face with a nasty blue snake.

Aha! Is that a bird house I spy for some good sport?
Juergen Perthold said, “I always wonder where he has been during his day. Sometimes he returns hungry, sometimes with traces of fights and sometimes he just stays out all day. That’s when I got the idea for the camera.”
Juergen used his engineering knowledge to create the digital catcam which hangs from Mr. Lee’s neck, reports Metro.
Perthold said, “My wife Jenny and the children thought it was a great idea and the pictures are amazing. Every day we wonder what will be on the camera and we love finding out.”
The tiny camera is encased in a protective box that’s scratch, shock and water resistant, preventing damage as Mr. Lee goes about his daily expeditions.
Perthold, from South Carolina added, “I would change the camera every time Mr. Lee returned home. We couldn’t see all of the photos but the ones we did see were truly amazing.”
My personal favorite quote from Juergen’s commentary for his initial testing …
Big moment no. 1: attach the collar with the camera to the cat. The reaction was not very happy but finally accepted. Reality check passed
Take a journey where one cat has been before — Mr. Lee’s prowls …

Clandestine cat meeting beneath car.

Aha! Sultry catwoman — now I know why you didn’t come home last night.

Gasp! First shock of the day! A snake!

Mr. Lee approaches an unknown house with caution.
If you’d like to order this device to keep tabs on your own precocious pet, Juergen Perthold sells the catcam from his website.

Wicked idea…how long before people start to use them on their errant spouses or even their kids hahaha
Hehe, I’ve already toyed with the notion of putting one on my husband’s bike to see where he goes riding for the fun of it. ‘Toying’ is the operative word here, I’d never do it
‘Toying’ with the idea huh, I’m sure your husband would be well impressed hahahaha
Oh gawd, he’d kill me! It was a fun thought was all, hehe.
what a great idea…big brother look out!!!!….
the possibilities could be endless…..why not DVD cameras ………and we could have mini movies of a day/night in the life of ?????……
my list could be endless Deborah….
and I don’t have any pets haha
As have been said, I know a lot of humans who`ll really need one of those on them neck ..
Me, for example, for the moments I don`t remember how many beers I “read” yestarday, so that my pockets are today so empty …
(-:
You’re right Kim, the possibilities for something like this are endless. I think that the enterpreneur that developed this catcam is missing the boat!
Haha, a play by play so you can remember the night before Valentin? Another valid purpose
I featured this cat cam on my Cats On Tuesday post on another blog of mine many posts ago. All of my cat ladies blogger friends were very interested in this device for many of them have outdoor cats. Imagine if lots of cat owners did this….what a fascinating cat world-view we would soon have. Great post!
Cool! Which one of your blogs Kuanyin? I’d like to read it. I think it would be a blast to see where your cats journey to, and I’m sure there would be many surprises!
Excellent!
I know what ours do – they play football with little plastic toys at three o’clock in the morning, smacking them loudly off our bedroom door.
Too funny Baxter! Just like having a kid, haha!
I came here his time via someone’s link saved on del.icio.us. Your topics always interest me. In some ways this would be interesting to do. I would rather not know what happened to my cat’s other lives – she may be up to number 9 and I would never want to let her out again.
Well, look what the cat dragged in via Delicious, haha!
The thought of not knowing where my cat was would scare me to begin with. Something like this could be a useful tool to find out where they regularly hang out at.
But my personal sentiments if I had a cat would be to keep it indoors, and walk it by leash outside. They can be trained if it’s done while they don’t know any better while very young, I’ve seen it done.
I love it, especially the picture of the other cat under the car! Its only a matter of time before a video version is dreamt up!
Andy
Wonderful pictures! Thank you for your ingenuity. I love the close-to-earth view. It brings back memories of the backs of people’s knees, the hems of trench coats and in spring, a small robin’s egg shell broken open, the bird gone, my mother explaining it so nicely, (memories from my toddler-hood when I was close to the ground in my perspective).
I love it Andy, the Cat Vidcam!
It certainly gives a different perspective to see a day in the life of your cat with a ‘cat’s-eye-view’, Mrs Braveheart. That’s quite the visual memory of your early childhood
that an ingenious contraption. how do i get one for my cat.
I love the picture of the cat with the snake in front of it. I’n just glad we’re in the uk and have no dangerous snakes over here.
