Drunk Man Attacked by Crocodile and LIVES

One inebriated Matt Martin — a holidaying construction worker from Newcastle in NSW — took a night-time swim and dove from waist deep water through a wave at a surf beach directly into the maws of a crocodile at the Beach at Cow Bay north of the Daintree on north Queensland’s ‘crocodile highway.’
“It was sort of like when you hit rocks but the rocks had give and movement in them.” he told The Cairns Post on Friday. “I thought I was dead.”
A struggle ensued and the man retreated, cheating death, but not before suffering gashes requiring 40 stitches to his head and face.
Martin was so drunk at the time that he wasn’t aware of the extent of his injuries and simply went to bed. A look in the mirror revealed it was “pretty messed up” and he went for treatment the next day.
Martin said the gravity of what happened didn’t hit him until after he was stitched up. “It was only after that I started to see images of the croc.” he said. “The frame I saw was the rib cage and left paw, the croc skin and the way it looked.”
“The crocodiles essentially use the coastal strip as their ‘crocodile highway’ to get from one location to another.” said Dr. Read, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service crocodile expert. “Get people swimming at night-time, which is the perfect time for crocodiles being out looking for prey, that really increases exposure to risk.”
The report did not mention the size of the crocodile.
“Visitors and locals to the northern parts of Australia need to be aware of the risk of crocodile attacks when contemplating swimming in the area, as well as the risk of shark and stinger attacks.” Dr. Read said.
A word to the wise … don’t drink and dive.

well only in Australia I guess……sometimes I think Australians are either downright crazy or very very foolish……he certainly sounds like one happy-go-lucky guy…..and I’ve seen Australian friends of mine survive similiar accidents…..
that’s probably why our Aussie Diggers have such a great reputation for bravery…

Obviosly the Croc was a bourbon whiskey drinker. The mans beer breath left a bad taste in it’s mouth. So it spit him out. Just a guess. I prefer Jim Beam bourbon myself. Ha Haa.
