Fast Lane Driver Equipment & Training Requirements
Welcome back!
We get many calls and emails inquiring what Fast Lane Transport’s requirements are for drivers. I’d like to answer some of these questions here.
Most of the work that we do for our customers is for large or bulky cargo. For this reason, we now only hire drivers that have a minimum of a 1 Ton Flat Deck Truck for their equipment. 1 Ton Dually Trucks with a Box are not able to service many of our customers’ needs, or make it difficult for shippers to load and unload their vehicles. Having a Gooseneck Trailer will enhance your earnings considerably.
All of our drivers are Owner Operators. We do not hire drivers without their own equipment.
In order to meet our customers’ requirements and our own standards, we have a Standard Safety Policy and Equipment list that all of our drivers must follow. Below is our list for minimum equipment, insurance and training requirements:
WHMIS Training (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) – Mandatory
TDG Training (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) – Mandatory
First Aid Training (Optional)
H2S Training (Optional)
PDIC (Professional Driver Information Course) – (Optional)
Drivers’ Abstract 5 year history minimum
$2,000,000 Liability Insurance
Minimum $10,000 Cargo Insurance
WCB Coverage (Worker’s Compensation Board) for General Freight Subcontractor
Mike Phone with Internet Access for Email & GPS Capabilities
Reflective Safety Vest
Hard Hat – (Neutral Color)
Steel Toe Boots – (CSA Approved)
Safety Glasses
Nomex coveralls
Fire extinguisher
First Aid kit
Road side safety flares (triangles)
Revolving light beacon
4 Orange Load Flags (no ribbons) 2’ x 2’
Phone Book (PBC Business Finder / Yellow Pages)
Map of city and surrounding area
Alberta, Saskatchewan & B.C. road maps
Winter safety / emergency gear
Transportation Approved straps & ratchets
Deer whistles
Tire chains
I hope this has been helpful to you if you have been considering applying to work for Fast Lane Transport. You can contact us or send us your resume via email or fax here.

Can I ask – do your drivers find steel toe boots cumbersome for driving in?
Thanks.
Al.
No, you can actually get some rather lightweight regulation boots that are not cumbersome.
That very useful information that you are sharing with us. just a question how did you learn all about this?
quite the list of requirements, but they all seem to make sense.
