Dog Self-help Course
Cowardly dogs suffering from lack of self esteem are being taught to face their fears at a special self confidence course.
The course has been a huge success for behavior expert Marianne Prutsch. “More and more dogs are scared of their own shadows and the course is designed to make them more self confident and secure.
“Self-confident dogs rarely bite and are more fun to be with. Nervous dogs who are afraid of everything are even more likely to bite their owners and too often are aggressive.”
The course is offered at Hannersdorf, in the wine growing Burgenland region of Austria.
The most naturally more nervous dogs include Dobermans, Dalmatians and Border Collies.
She added: “The most self confident are the Irish Wolfhounds, but they are also one of the biggest.”

Dog Coffins
Matthew Dow, a US carpenter in Maine who operates Dow’s Wood Products, is making custom-built pet caskets and urns that he’s marketing through animal shelters, pet stores and veterinary clinics.
Mathew comes from a family of woodworkers and is carrying on in the family tradition — but in ways his forebears would probably never have imagined. When he first mentioned his pet-casket idea to others, they responded with amused skepticism.
Now he’s trying to turn the venture into a viable enterprise. He has a brochure in which he lists four casket sizes ranging in price from $95 to $395. The boxes are made from pine and are satin-lined. Customers can buy engraved brass plaques for an additional fee. Each casket takes about a day and a half to make. Is that slave labor or just doggy love?
For now, all caskets are custom-made. Mathew is hoping to be able to build up a stock so the coffins can be available as soon as they’re needed.
His biggest challenge is getting the word out. “I had many people telling me I had a great product at a reasonable price, but I needed to advertise.” he said.
Dog Owners Fleeced in Poodle Scam
Is it a dog or is it a lamb? Can you tell difference? Thousands of people have been fleeced into buying neatly coiffured lambs they thought were poodles.
Flocks of lambs were shipped from the UK and Australia to Japan and marketed as the latest “must have” accessory, then sold by a company called Poodles as Pets for as much as $1600.
The scam was only spotted after Japanese actress Maiko Kawamaki said her poodle didn’t bark and refused to eat dog food when she was on a talk show.
It’s been reported that Japanese police believed there could be more than 2000 people who were snared into this scam.
Fact? Or fiction? This is the story that’s been all over the headlines. It turns out to merely be an urban myth according to Snopes — but it made a good story for the papers!
It’s not far off from the “Mexican Pet urban myth, in which unsuspecting tourists traveling in Mexico adopt a stray dog, to discover later that their new pet was indeed a very large rat.
You’d think that bleating and hooves for paws would be a bit of a giveaway.
Apparently Maiko Kawamaki wasn’t talking about herself on the talk show, but said she had heard a story about someone else being sold a sheep as a poodle.
As for a pet store called Poodles as Pets, there isn’t any reference to a pet store in Japan by that name or anything similar.
To think that anyone could be fooled by not being able to tell the difference between a lamb and a poodle is absurd. There are several Japanese websites dedicated to poodles, poodle clubs and breeder sites. Poodles are also sold in local pet stores in Japan.
Not only that, it’s odd that this story that’s made world wide headlines hasn’t even made news in Japan.
Flying Dog
Now, this is funny …
Eli, an Australian cattle dog leaps off the back of his owner Josh Mumme while chasing a frisbee at a park in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Cat Gives Birth to Puppy
People in China are flocking to see a pet cat which has given birth to a puppy, as reported in Ananova.
.
The cat, in Zhengzhou city, gave birth to four kittens, one of which looks like a white poodle.
“It looks very different from the other kittens, and its mouth, nose and paws are all dog-like. Also, its tail is one centimeter shorter than that of the other three kittens.” says owner Zhang Qiming.
Neighbors are pouring into Zhang’s house to pay the cat-dog a visit, reports Zhengzhou Evening Papers.
Zhang says he has had the cat for more than two years, and she has given birth before but never to a dog.
“I always let her go as she pleases, to date other cats or play outside overnight,” he said.
Pullleeease. Has the media become so desperate to make their daily quota for headlines? Is it just another poodle urban myth? You decide.
Nora the Piano Playing Cat
Well here’s one that doesn’t appear to be myth. Not to be outdone by her canine counterparts’ limelight, Nora the cat can play the piano. Seriously!

This is a great post. My mom would purchase any of these items because she considers her dog more of a child then me sometimes.
I think that some people maybe go over the top, but whatever floats their boat!
Wow! You could have made a few posts out of that one.
Hmmm doggy coffins and lamb poodles. who woulda thunk it? LOL
Cade:
My dog is my baby, I can relate!
Tricia:
I’d prefer having my dogs in a casket if they were going to be buried, but I think I’d prefer cremation. That’s the way *I* want to go.
Hehe, sometimes I just don’t know how to stop
