Welcome back!

An out of control swing at a playground in Argentina has families, police and authorities spooked as they’ve witnessed a swing that rocks back and forth on its own accord without being touched.

Witnesses have maintained that the seat moves nonstop for ten days before suddenly stopping dead, while other swings remain still. The paranormal phenomenon was reported to police after it began moving four months ago.

City locals of Firmat are convinced that a ghost is behind the haunted swing.

Teacher Maria de Silva Agustina said, “One child called it the Blair Witch Playground. We believe it is haunted.” reports Metro.

The ghostly swing has left scientists physics professors and mystified and they are unable to provide any logical explanation to the occurrence.

Academics have ruled out possibilities of magnetic and electrical fields, and winds and have called upon ghost hunters to help uncover the phenomenon.

Evidence of a poltergeist or just merely wind? You be the judge …

The following video is a possible explanation for a natural phenomonon called “Mechanical Resonance”, in which a constant, low, wind velocity is responsible for the movement, as Tom provided in the comments below:

  1. That’s kind of freaky. When the clip first started, I thought someone had just pushed the swing, but then the guy stopped it and it started by itself. I don’t know…

  2. OK, that does it! You change the name of your blog right now. Call it Poltergeist. LOL! Hm, wait… I think this is a good idea. There are no ghost stories blogs are there? Maybe we should make one. But again… if we spook the visitors away… (?)

  3. This is freaky. This will surely scare the kids away. Too bad.

  4. I wasn’t convinced at first myself Barry, but as you watch the video, it does seem to have an air of authenticity. There were quite a number of clips on this, and not taken at the same time. They all show the swing starting from nothing and don’t appear to have any trickery.

Haha, ’tis the season of spooks and ghouls Mig :-) But the last thing we’d want is to frighten people away ;-)

Ysobel, I remember being scared to death for years after watching a sci-fi show as a kid which would be laughable by technoligal advances today. Hard to say if kids have become desensitized by this or not.

  5. I think it’s because these people are on Ambien – which can cause hallucinations. As far as the video goes, well, there’s always trick photography.
Fishing line and a portable turbo fan?

  6. A explanation for the haunted swing could be a natural phenomonon called “Mechanical Resonance”, in which a constant, low, wind velocity is responsible for the movement. (See video for explanation)

  7. Some interesting theories Morgan ;-) I’ve added the video which Tom suppllied the link for in a possible and viable theory.

Thanks Tom, was this your submission to YouTube?

  8. Ah, verrry interesting! It must be exciting as an scientist to investigate those kind of phenomena trying to find an explanation to it. I’d have loved it.

well, as long as finding an explanation of course, otherwise…. my goose bumps would be huge as scyscrapers…. *giggles*

Sorry, I haven’t seen this post earlier, I’ve been quite busy, but now it’s linked up in the scary post :-)

  9. i thinks its cool in a freeky way and i thought that sumone pushed it but i dont know i’m baffled by this :)

  10. very spooky Deborah…..
one never knows with the paranormal….
I certainly wouldn’t be taking my children to that park :0

  11. Yes, it would be thrilling to be a scientist working to debunk many of these reports Captain :D But if I came across something that was actually real I’d probably pee myself in their presence, haha! Thanks for linking this post up :-)

I was almost believing this one myself Lauren, but Tom’s video on resonance makes me feel a little it could be a little dubious. I’d like to see this live in action myself.

I think I’d be keeping my children away as well if I were a parent. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for the cause of nightmares and fears to come.

  12. cool
    hehe
