Don’t let the price fool you, it’s an amazing bargain at that. Kim has received numerous prestigious awards, as well as a letter from Buckingham Palace in their appreciation for the drawing she created of Princess Diana’s Wedding.

Kim Barker has commanded as much as $20,000 US for her recent works. As Kim gains more and more recognition from exposure she receives, the values of her artwork will be certain to gain exponentially, and you will own a piece of beautiful artwork of considerable value, created especially for you. If you’d rather have a portrait of someone other than yourself, Kim is more than happy to oblige.

I had written a feature post for Kim Barker, and since then she has become a very dear friend. In her appreciation for my efforts, Kim created a portrait of me taken from a photo from my wedding last summer. You can see from my avatar on the left sidebar how talented she is at capturing an impeccable portrayal for her portraits.

This photo doesn’t begin to touch on the detail and beauty of her work. It’s a blend of mediums using charcoals and white oil paints. Much of the elements are lost in transition from ‘canvas’ to internet.

In order to win the competition, you’ll be required to answer questions about the artist. What little could a person be required to do to receive such a precious prize? And in so doing, you’ll also be able to learn more about this delightful artist.

Rules for the competition:

1. One question will be posted each day from September 1 to September 30 2007 at Kim’s blogs:

Laketrees OR PoeARTica

Don’t fret over time lost, it’s still early in the competition and you can go back to previous posts to answer the daily questions. But don’t wait too long!

2. You will find the answers by reading her posts at
Laketrees or PoeARTica or at her website laketrees1

3. Each day, enter your answer in the comment form at either Laketrees OR PoeARTica

4. The winner will be the reader with the most correct answers entered by September 30th at 11pm EST.

The answers to the 30 questions will be posted on September 30th at 12pm EST.

Check out Kim’s conditions for competition entry details.

Kim Barker’s Turban painting –- my personal favorite — recently commanded $20,000. Had I been wealthy enough, the Turban would be hanging from yours truly’s walls instead.

If you’d like to learn more about Kim Barker, take a short time to read up on her feature post on this blog.

You can also find a plethora of Kim Barker’s works at her website which will be time well spent.

Her Royal Highness Kim Barker the Mystical of Withering Glance has challenged me to get my own regal title, which led to …

My Regal Title

My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is:
Marchioness Deborah the Nefarious of Barton in the Beans
Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title

Well that didn’t seem very regal and a dubious title at that, so I attempted once more

My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is:
Honourable Lady Deborah the Apocalyptic of Leighton Buzzard
Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title

Well it served me right for not accepting what was awarded me in the first place.
I was also dared to take my fortune cookie …

My Fortune Cookie told me:
You could consider that it is too late to write to the government about your grandfather’s threshing machine.
Get a cookie from Miss Fortune

After that bad piece of news, I got greedy and went for another …

My Fortune Cookie told me:
The cherry pies will have their revenge.
Get a cookie from Miss Fortune

OH NO! Say it ain’t so!

As for the precarious titles, I have others who’ve awarded me with the following to prove otherwise, ahem …

Kuanyin from The Art of Living and Dying awarded me with the

Nice Matters Award

Nice_Matters_Award_sfw

The Nice Matters Award is given to those who are simply nice people, ones who care about others and extend support, those that provide inspiration to others, or those who are a positive influence in the blogging community.

And from Colin at Life with the

Thoughtful Blogger Award

Thoughtful_Blogger_Award_Black_sfw

Thoughtful_Blogger_Award_White_sfw

for constant pursuit of thoughtfulness and consideration towards others in the blogosphere, which I’m now passing on to:

Captain Lifecruiser

East Coast Life

Renny from Terella BA

Tom from Tom’s Hideaway

Sandee from Comedy Plus

Play along if you like and if not, that’s cool too. Just don’t forget to check out Kim Barker’s generous portrait competition.

  1. I first time heard of this name Kim Barker. By the way her design was great. But I don’t have any knowledge on how to viewing a particular portrait considered as a good work.

  2. Well…Lady Deborah the Apocalyptic of Leighton Buzzard …
you certainly are an expert at writing fabulous posts…..I was just over at Sueblimely’s blog…commenting on her professional promo of the comp too……and Saboma and Pearl have both come to the party as well with fantasic write ups….you gals promote me and my work better than I do…in fact Mr Laketrees thinks he might be losing his job as my promoter……
you’ve even photographed YOUR portrait better than I did….:-P
lucky for me that you don’t paint portraits :D
I love the selection of works….thay look great…..and your attention to detail is admirable…thank you from the bottom of my heart Deborah (hugs)….your new awards suit you very nicely :-X
love that oh sooo pretty pink one …..

  3. Well…you are a master blog poster!! :) Lady Deborah the Apocalyptic of Leighton Buzzard… this is absolutely a grand promo! :) In the last two days, Kim has awarded me two more awards, and now I think I am looking for a 4 column template :) one for the ads, one for awards and of course two for navigation!

  4. Louiss, everyone views art differently, and each of us receives a different feeling or message from it. That’s one of the beauties in art. In order to judge what you feel about an artists’ talent for portraits, all that you have to do is look to the original subject that’s being captured and the portrait itself.

That’s what friends do Kim, help one another when they can, without needing to be asked. But sometimes we need a little bump to see the light.

Tell Mr Laketrees not to worry, he won’t be losing his job anytime soon. The more the merrier, right? I saw Saboma’s and Pearl girl’s post and thought they did a wonderful job. I’ll have to check out Sue’s.

I think the photograph has more to do with the image editing software than anything else. I have a few magic keystrokes which often transforms pics to reveal color and detail ;-)

No worries about painting, it’s not one of my ‘gifts’ as you have. Maybe if I was filthy rich I’d be able to give Stephen Spielberg a run for his money producing films with some of the wild dreams I have, haha.

That’s all the rewards and award I need, is knowing how happy you are with how I presented you :-)

Haha, thanks Pearl girl. I saw your awards, for which Kim was much faster at the draw than I, or you would have been on this list as well ;-)

See, now you’re beginning to feel the need for organization with columns and sidebars. 2 column templates simply aren’t enough. But I’ve rarely seen anyone using a 4 column template, the designs are few and far between. I wouldn’t mind one myself!

  5. Yes, i read about her contest. It’s a pity I really, really don’t have the time to participate. Can’t prioritize that. She really is a talented painter. Love the portaits you’re showing here!!!! I love art… Wish I were that talented :-)

OH, thanx x millions for the award!!! I’ll try to pass it on soooon :-)

    *blushing with glittering eyes*

  6. If anyone understands the concept of lack of time to fit everything in we’d like to do, it’s me Captain :-) I only wish I was as talented as Kim myself.

Actually, there’s 2 awards Captain, the Thoughtful Blogger and Nice Matters. But no pressures, I simply wanted to pass them forward to you. If you feel like playing with the Regal Titles and Fortune Cookies, it’s a lot of fun too :-)

  7. Hi M’Lady lol,
First title was definitely somewhat dubious, but who knows…..maybe they just got it right hahahaha

    Congratulations on your awards :)

That is a superb post on Kim’s work, and she has a real talent and doesn’t it show too. ‘Turban’ is an amazing painting that would look good on any wall…..now I have a few empty ones lol. The only portrait painting I have is of Winston Churchill from 1943, and that’s staying put too :)

His Eminence the Very Lord Colin the Charitable of Mabe Burnthouse :)

  8. Well Colin, first you pay me respect by calling me M’Lady, then you take it away in the same breath, haha!

Thanks for the compliment on the post and awards :-)

I’ve pined over Kim’s Turban painting since I first saw it. My walls are plastered with artwork, but Kim’s will be my only original painting.

I do have some beautiful pieces of pottery plates and plaques by De Simone tho, one of Picasso’s students, but they’re very likely created by one of his own artists from his colony using his designs. It’s been said that it’s not really certain as to who was the teacher and who was the student when it came to cubism, they both developed the concept together.

  9. awww…. thanks for the award. I know all the recipients! :)

Kim’s a talented painter. I fell in love with her work. And you did a fabulous job of promoting her art writing this post. You are such a great friend to have.

  10. I’d like a 4 column template too….so if you find one Deborah let me know..in fact I’d be happy with 3…..two columns is impossible !!!
    ….thanks for the photo …..it’s great….much better than mine :D :-X
and thanks to everyone here for your kind comments on my work……. :-X

  11. I often visit Kim and really think she is a great painting artist. Her art is so clean and special and all her work is just breath taking and unique!

I’ve also noticed her competition of course, but then again there is always a question of having enough time!

Thank you so very much for your award! Yes, I try to be thoughtful and really feel its a givers gain: ‘the more you give, the more you get’! Some of it is to have blogfriends like you!

Wishing you a happy bump day:-)

  12. I’m only happy to pass the awards onto you Eastcoastlife, and thanks for all your kind words :-)

Kim, I saw that you had mentioned you were going to switch to WordPress. Once you have, there’s a ton of great templates available. I have no idea about Blogger.

Glad the pic worked for you :-)

I haven’t come across one person that hasn’t fallen in love with Kim’s artwork, Renny, you’re not alone :-)

You’re more than welcome, I feel I selected perfect candidates for the awards. So true, give freely without asking for anything in return, and karma always brings it back to you.

Great to have you as a blogging buddy too :-)

‘Bump Day’? Is that like a middle of the week day term for Wednesday? We call it ‘hump day’ here, although ‘hump’ can have a dubious sexual connotation :-)

  15. Thanks Tom :-) Hehe, which goes to show one of the good reasons I gave you the award ;-) My pleasure!

  16. Hmm these are okay but not really floating my boat to any massive extent. Then again you have to know personally the subject to really apprecite if a portrait is good or not.
