Large Russian Men in Scanty Tutus
Welcome back!
Ballerinas as you’ve never seen before — with hairy chests and five o’clock shadow — as Russian men dressed in scanty tutus perform a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ which culminates with a dip in frigid ice water.
Nothing says Happy Holidays like this daring group of Swan Kings who wish they had as much clothing as talent performing just outside of Russia.
They may have had a tough time fitting into their tutus but did what they could with animated seasonal dedication … we’ll give them that.
You can view the video on ABC News.
Many male Russian dancers have actually gone on to reach worldwide acclaim, including George Balanchine, Vladimir Malakhov, Pavel Gerdt, Vaslav Nijinsky, Yuri Soloviev, and Yury Grigorovich who controversially reworked Swan Lake to produce a happy end for the story in 1984
The Russian method of classical ballet has a rich history embedded in czarist Russia. During the early Soviet times, Agrippina Vaganova, at the Leningrad Choreographic School began to develop and codify these existing elements into what is sometimes referred to as the Vaganova Method. Other great master teachers of the Moscow School such as Nicolai Tarasov and Elizavetta Gerht also added elements to what is known today as the Russian School.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo began in 1974 as something of a private joke. Choreographer Peter Anastos and friends donned toe shoes and performed wily but loving parodies of the great ballerinas in Manhattan lofts. Word slowly spread and it became clear that the appeal of hairy-chested men in tutus reached beyond the New York ballet scene.
The Trocks — now the ballet world’s most famous comedy act — tour almost constantly in London, Japan, Australia, Europe and Russia, and has a loyal following in the U.S.

I just had to head over here straight away when I read the title to this one. Just could not resist finding out what it was about
I think the tutus must hide some sort of thermal system for keeping them warm.
Lol…. Those are really funny pics… Nice post.
What,….with the incredible shrinkage factor on a certain male organ, especially after diving into ice water, it’s no surprise that they would feel and dress like ballerinas. Or perhaps they’ve got an endless supply of Stolichnaya Vodka. Either way,…while you’ve got to take a peek, it’s still a bit disturbing. (in a train wreck sort of way)
Hehehe, I think the only thermal system hiding beneath their tutus is something natural, Sue
Glad you enjoyed it Hardwood
Hahaha, I’m not sure I even want to touch that comment Nitropuppy
Yes, “in a train wreck sort of way,” hahaha!
I love it, this is the second post I’ve read on your blog and once again, the pictures are incredible. Not that I like seeing scantily clad, overwieght Russian men in tutu’s but still, it’s a visual masterpiece. Keep up the good work.
Haha, thanks Recipe, glad you enjoy it
They deserve all our respect. I don’t know if I would have been able to do that as a man. It takes a lot of your feminine side to do that!
No doubt it takes a lot of beating on the pride receiving jabs from others as well, Riche
I’m sure they actually had fun doing it despite the frigid ice waters.
Men in tutus in not a problem, but fat men in tutus that don’t have anything in common with dancing, that is hilarious.
Haha that is hilarious. I love fat people – i don’t know why. I love scenes in movies when fat people dance or even watching youtube videos of fat people in speedos walking down the street. But tutu’s? LOL that is classic
you are the best
-Travis
I think these guys were adorable, Termite
Not just for their bravery to tackle the icy waters, but for knowing full well beforehand the jabs they’d receive for donning tutus, all for a worthy cause.
There’s no thermal system hided under whater. And it’s all ok with their organs. Be sure.
I surprised u never heared about Ice Diving (actually it called different, but i donno how to translate it from RUS). Those people are well trained. They do this many many years, every winter. These people never ill, because their organisms are trained enough to stand against cold weather and other factors that can harm to ppl like Me and You. I heared that water is not that cold as we may think, so if u trained you can dive too. They dive when atmospheric temp is about -5′C and water temp is about 0′C (sometimes it can be less). And one more thing: They dive for short piece of time. Of course f you’ll swim in ice around 20 mins – it will harm you, no matter how trained u are.
If you want to try this – strart your trainings from cold shower, then try to lower water temperature at each attempt.. lower, lower, lower and lower.. and maybe someday u’ll be just like these ppl. But u should know that most of them do it around 10 years, so they got big experience. You can’t jut take a cold shower and week after dive into iced water and feel ok))

Yeah, they’re funny. Use tutus for diving is great idea to make some fun. Maybe someday we’ll see new type of olympic sport: Ice water polo with fat guys in tutus)))
Thanks so much for your insightful comment and information
No, I had never heard of Ice Diving, but I will certainly look into it further. It sounds like the making of an interesting future article here
Most definitely one wouldn’t be able to remain in the frigid waters for very long, as not much can zap the body temperature down faster than cold waters.
But brrrrr, just the thought of that kind of conditioning chills me to the bones
I’m a summer lover myself, and get cold very easily.
Olympic sport for ice water polo … too funny
Those pictures are hilarious… funny to see fat men in tutus lol….
