Man Cut in Half Lives to Walk Again
With all surviving odds against him, Peng Shulin’s body was cut in half by a large transport truck in 1995, leaving his doctors shocked and amazed by his survival. Not only is it a miracle that he has lived to tell the tale, he’s now learning to walk again.

It took a team of more than 20 doctors working feverishly to save his life.
Skin was grafted from his head to close his torso up, but his lower body could not be saved — leaving him to ’stand’ a full 2 feet 6 inches (78 centimeters) in height.
After being bedridden for years, doctors in China didn’t have very much hope that he would ever be able to lead any form of a normal life again, reports Metro.
The bionic legs mimic the way Peng’s limbs would have worked
Peng began exercising his arms and building his strength up to carry out daily routine chores, empowering him to do things such as washing his face and brushing his teeth.
When doctors at the China Rehabilitation Research Centre in Beijing found out about Peng’s quandary, they teamed together to devise a program to get him walking once more.
They came up with an ingenious way to allow him to walk on his own merit by creating a sophisticated ‘egg cup-like’ casing to hold his body with two bionic legs attached to it.
With the aid of his uniquely adapted legs and resized walking frame, Peng has been taking his first steps around the centre.
Peng is thrilled with his device, and the opportunity it affords him to learn to walk again.

Absolutely amazing…..and what courage and determination too. The use of technology to improve the lifestyle and quality of life for disabled people is advancing greatly and I bet that Peng Shulin now feels 10 foot tall…..wonderful.

It would take a great deal of work Sue. It’s difficult enough for us to build our muscles in weight training. Paul Shulin has been bed ridden for 12 years, he would have a much greater task to do so.
I broke my foot many years ago, and it was hard enough for me trying to use the crutches to carry my weight after walking for any length of time.
After 12 years of living his life bed ridden, he must be elated with the hopes of a life beyond that.
What a courageous effort by Peng Shulin and the Doctors…….Deborah !!!!

Where are the medical Ethicists?
Sure this is a story of the triumph of one man…heartwarming and all that. But I think a lot has been left out here…Is his continued survival based on the compassion of doctors concerned with his quality of life or was he a Guinea Pig in some horrible medical experiment?
You know what Dog? From my own personal experience, much of what doctors do to / for patients is experimental, and patients are used as Guinea Pigs.
I’d like to think that this was done to help improve Peng Shulin’s quality of life, but definitely, it would be experimental at the same time.
That’s how science forges ahead, it has to be tested on human life in final stages. Some things work and can be helpful for others, while others fail.

I find this man’s courage inspirational. Rather than be sorry for what he doesn’t have, he’s working with what’s left. My grandfather was like that. When he was 18 he was shot in the arm and it was amputated at his shoulder. He had been a well known fiddler and after the accident he taught himself how to fiddle with only one arm and then went on to win fiddling championships. He also ran a 300 acre farm, just him and my grandma. His example profoundly affected the way I looked at obstacles and handicaps my entire life.

I’d probably feel more like Milby myself, not wanting to live. But we have the choice to well in our misery or make the most of what it is to live a happy life, rather than feeling suicidal.

I saw a guy named “Kenny” on Jerry SPringer who was born only with half a body. He looked to be in the same shape as this guy. I wonder if he could benefit from this?
Jerry Springer is all about sensationalism. I’d hate to think of what the guy was subjected to on the show. But yes, he could certainly benefit from this, it would give him his freedom of independence back.

Boy! He’s really tough to have survived this challenge in life. I mean it was surely a miracle that he was able to survive the accident. Moreover he was able to survive the depression, in which one would rather die than to be alive. He has survived the biggest strife in all that. That he chose to live than cut his own life. I applaud you for your courage and strength to pursue your life’s battle despite the fact that things would be very different. God bless you and may you always have the courage to move on. If this is the story of the man from the video posted in Facebook (link above), I will have to disagree. According to this article, the accident happened in 1995. But, If you watch the video carefully, cellphones which were no way released during that year (1995) were seen at 2:07, 2:10 and 2:27 of the video.
I do believe that this story is real.
But the video? I don’t think so. It looked fake and impossible. Being cut in half like that, the man should have lost too much blood but it doesn’t show in the video. He’s even “playing around” with his lower body parts. Plus, the one who posted the video claims that this is the proof that his video is real.
I just wanted to clear things up. Good day everyone.

hello everyone! whether the video is fake or for real, i believe we can all look at it on a positive angle. For me, the message is simple: ” NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE IF WE JUST HAVE THE WILL AND THE FAITH.” I just wish that people who make rude comments can be able to look beyond… that it can be a source of great realization about ones life! I have seen and met people who are complete with their 5 senses and yet they are more like a handicap to me! People like them really gets into my nerves. What happened to Peng is really a miracle! So inspiring! Hope that when i am faced with a gruesome experience like his… it may not be on the same level… i would also have the “WILL and the FAITH” to see me through… So, all you people out there stop making negative comments, instead, be thankful that you have this as a constant reminder of how great the Lord is and that we are still one lucky guy amidst all adversities!

There is a video of him right after he got cut in half. Its really graphic but hes talking to the bystanders and feeling where he got cut. He tries to sit up. He must have been in shock. The video is mislabled tho saying that he is vietnamese, but it is obviously peng.

wow je suis vrament contante de voir qu’il vie encore ..je constate qu’il a un sac et c’eat ca que je me disais qu’il devais avoir ….mais c’est plus l’aide non eu lors de l’accident qui m’a boulvercé je sais qu’il pouvait avoir des risques en le bougent de perforer quelques chose mais déja d’être assis a côté de lui et lui parlé montré un surpport moral aurait été le moindre des choses…..

I saw the video of this man during the time of the accident, I concluded that he would never survive for that. Just today when a friend of mine posted this link, I was trying to figure out where and when did I saw this man, right then I remembered HE WAS THE ONE, the one in the accident. OMG! I can’t believe he survived…a total realization on my part. A realization that we normal people should always thank God that we are still complete. Look at him, he is still happy despite of what was happened to him. I salute him for his courage and to the people who exerted unconditional effort to help him rise again…thanks for sharing this blog, keep it up!

thats a different accident involving a vietnamese cop. the cop in the accident video died moments later in a taxi taking him to hospital. just cos its 2 asians doesnt make it the same man.
