People are flocking to wallow in the mud of 3 small remote ponds that locals in Peru believe to possess miraculous healing powers brought by alien space ships. Residents of Chilca — a dusty, desert town on the Pacific coast 40 miles (20 kilometers) southeast of Lima — claim that aliens altered the mud flats in town, infusing them with inexplicable healing powers.

It’s said that the lagoons cure everything from acne to rheumatism and boast plentiful cures. Ailing Peruvians arrive sick and in a short time set forth healed and revitalized.

The nutrient rich mud is applied to the skin as a natural peel that restores the cells of the skin and eliminates toxins. The secret of the cure is to bake in the sun, allowing the mud to thoroughly dry after utterly plying yourself from top to bottom with the medicinal muck.

The 3 Healing Lagoons
The “Lagoon of Miracles” which lies near the entrance of the town along with the mud ponds that surround it is said to heal skin aliments, acne, rheumatism, and arthritis with its distinct greenish colored mud containing minerals of chloride of sodium, sulfate, and carbonate of calcium.

The “Lagoon of Enchantment” is a crevasse in the interior of the lagoon linked directly with the sea by an underwater canal, sought after to heal ailments of the eyes, nerves, joints, and low blood pressure.

The “Lagoon of Mellicera” is believed to increase fertility and may be attributed for the unusually high birth rate of twins in the village. Locals use the lagoon to cure skin and bones aliments, and relief from diabetes.

UFO Sightings
Local doctors and scientists accredit these enigmatic and inexplicable healing properties to the UFO’s which have allegedly been sighted and well documented in the area that seemingly radiate the waters.

Mayor Ruma Nueda says, “Lots of people claim to have seen UFO’s and strange lights in the night sky over Chilca. People here believe in UFO’s.”

“Locals say that space ships come to harvest an unknown material from the [ocean] area off Chilca’s beach. The UFO’s supposedly leave behind substances that leach into the ponds and give them curative powers.”

“Townspeople cite an abundance of twins in Chilca — more than 100 pairs in this town of 10,000, as proof of the power of the ‘Twin Maker’ pond.” Nueda says.

A plethora of information can be found on the net claiming Peruvian sightings and film footage, with sites even dedicated to UFO’s in Peru.

Joshua Shapiro claims that that about 50% of Peruvians have either had a UFO experience or knew of someone who did. Some claim to have had a pleasant contact while others have not. In the more rural areas, UFO’s are accepted as real and nothing extraordinary.

  1. Um, WOW! Curative mudbaths and aliens…I need to take a vacation in Peru! The man in that first picture looks like he isn’t enjoying the mud at all! :)

  2. OK, I am sure that rolling around in the mud and letting it dry on yourself makes you feel better, but you have to wonder how much of this “healing power” is attributed to a lack of education and a desire to want to believe.

  3. i m sure people must be thoroughly enjoying the mud bath. i think the mud is mineral rich dats why it kind of acts as a detox agent. otherwise i cant find any other logic to it.

  4. Mud packs and mud pool! What if this whole thing is a “DIRTY LIE”? :-)

Didn’t their parents tell them not to untidy themselves? How do they cleanse themselves without wasting scarce water, shower with a friend?

I would really be infuriated if some sneaky, cheating, opportunist made this whole thing up to get sick tourists to come, and then rip them off with inflated board and lodging rates. The DIRTY rats!

Seriously, I believe in UFOs. As a matter of fact,Eric Von Daniken’s Chariot of the Gods documented these – especially in South America.

Perhaps we can collect some of this stuff and repack it for the city folks who may find Peru too far. Could fetch a good price for a pound of mud too! Here’s a suggested brand and slogan: ReMuDDled- “Change the Way you Live”
    –Durano, done!

  5. Haha, no Kango, he doesn’t look like he’s having a whole lot of fun ;-)

True, the mind can do powerful things when someone really wants to believe in things affecting their body, Lasik.

I agree with you Daniel, I believe the minerals etc are what’s giving people their sense of ‘healing powers,’ or more simply making them feel invigorated.

I put nothing past opportunists attempting to make a buck, Durano. And apparently there are hotels in the area to accodomate the rate of visitors these lagoons have attracted.

Yes, you’re right about the documentation of the Chariots of the Gods. I did run across this in my searches on UFO’s in the area, but there were so many sources on the net, that to include any would have been a story entirely unto itself :-)

And now you’re even ahead of the marketers with ideas of packaging for re-sale ;-) Surprising it hasn’t been done yet.

  6. And I’ve got a jar of gypsy tears to sell.

  7. Haha, I may even have a buyer for you, Webrunner ;-)

  8. I would love to buy it and try it

  9. Well as far as I know Shivkumar, they’re not packaging and selling as yet. So if you really want to give it a try, you’ll have to travel to the mud baths themselves ;-)

  14. alien spaceships, mud ponds w/ supernatural healing powers in peru?… thats uhm…. interesting… although, the mud baths seem like fun, but if one has acne? i wouldn’t really recommend it… i dont know, maybe its the thought getting mud clogged in your pores (we know what its going to lead to), or maybe its the thought of a hundred alien spawns busting their way out your acne bumps… who knows, aliens could have infused the mud flats with microscopic larva? and when people with a pimple problem jump in for a bath, thats when the alien babies spring to action and burrow themselves in pimples, using it as chambers for them to mature… think alien(the movie)… i dont know about you guys but ill stick to a more conventional acne treatment…

  15. Shudder the thought of going into these ponds after someone else has with any kind of skin condition, Charolastra. I’m with you on sticking to conventional methods ;-)

  16. how can i buy the mud and you can send to san diego ca. usa

  17. Nothing is for sale here, Elizabeth, I’m sorry. It’s merely a write-up about the pond.

  18. I’ve actually been there ! (I think) or at any rate I’ve been to a mud pond in peru which is famous for everything (Ufo’s , healing etc) mentioned in the post.

I certainly looks the same and certainly looks like as messy and fun :-) and I certainly resembled the people in the photos.

  19. How cool, Jim :-) I bet that you had a blast, it really does look like a lot of fun :-)

  20. Very good. This is not the only case in Peru of UFO sightings supposedly giving goodness/healing to anything nearby. My dad used to own a farm and moved the grazing area for the cows into the middle of a place where UFO were often seen and people sat in the waterhole to be healed. He always used to say that the flying saucer would make the cow meat better but if they stole one of his cows he would chase after the aliens with a shotgun. When the cows were slaughtered for food and sale we would sell the meat as UFO meat as a joke. We also used to have a special meal for guests “UFO beef stew” very good with rice.

  21. I heard so much that mud really can heal things that even skin doctors can heal!

  22. There are some things that say mud can help cleanse your body. I hear more or less that other detox methods seem to work better though.

  23. if you are skeptical about all of these things , have a vacation in peru and see for yourself , there are so many things one keep hearing about all the time , i think that at $500 roundtrip ticket
and so many hotels for the budget oriented person ,fun is the least
thing should be on your mind. soon after arriving you will realize that can take planes to different cities inside , like Cuzco , for less than pocket change. make shure you go for at least 2 weeks , so much to do , so many places to go. Have fun!

  24. Hmm, I would remain somewhat skeptical about this as many of you above are. The less than convincing reports around exactly how the ponds managed to become infected with some form of Alien DNA need to be taken at arms length I would suggest. In terms of location though Peru does have its fair share of UFO/Alien stories this could be down to religious behaviors, lack of education or indeed because our Alien cousins from distant lands like it there……

  25. Well put, Alien ;-)

  26. I AM A PERUVIAN NATIVE MOVED TO USA WHEN I WAS 17. I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THESE MUD PONDS BUT, NEVER PUT ANY MIND TO IT. UNCLES AND AUNTS USA RESIDENTS ALWAYS TRAVEL TO PERU SPECIALLY TO THESE PONDS AND I COULD REALLY SAY THAT THEY DO HAVE GREAT SKIN AND THEY ARE PRETTY HEALTHY FOR 70 AND UP AGE. I MYSELF VERY SCKEPTICLE ABOUT ALL THINGS NEVER CARE FOR THAT. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE REUMATHOID ARTHRITYS (35 YRS OLD)I TAKE ABOUT 5 TO 12 PILLS A DAY AND A WEEKLY SHOT OF EMBREL TO BE ABLE TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE. BUT, NOT TOO LONG AGO I HAD AN ENCOUNTER WITH A USA NATIVE WITH THE SAME CONDITION AND RECOMMENDED ME TO GO TO PERU AND TAKE THOSE MUD BATHS BECAUSE IT REALLY HELPS HIM OUT FOR AT LEAST 6 TO 8 MONTHS BEFORE HE GOES BACK TO TAKING HIS DAILY PILLS. AS PAINFUL AS (RA) IS I WILL TRY ANYTHING SO I AM THINKING TO TAKING A TRIP TO PERU AFTER 19YRS STILL SKEPTICAL I WILL GO AND WILL COME BACK TO TELL MY STORY WISH ME GOOD LUCK.

  30. What a fascinating place! I have put it on my must visit list. Maybe I’m a nut but I’ve always thought aliens are a given since the universe is so vast and what we as a race know is so small.

    Blessings,
and I hope to see you in Peru covered in mud soon,
