Snakes in a Bathtub – Guinness World Record

Known as the ‘Texas Snake Man’, Jackie Bibby of Texas set a new World Record in Dublin, 120 miles southwest of Dallas, when he spent about 45 minutes in a see-through bathtub with 87 rattlesnakes without being bitten on Monday — just in time for Thursday’s Guinness World Records Day, breaking his own previous record.

One fully clothed Bibby said, “The snakes crawled under my arms, between my legs and anywhere else they could slither.” Wearing only ordinary clothing with a pillow behind him in a dry tub, he said the snakes were not defanged and still contained their venom.
“They can go wherever they want as long as they don’t start biting.” said Bibby. “The key to not biting is for me to stay still. Rapid movement scares a rattlesnake. If you move real slow and gentle, that doesn’t seem to bother them.”
Guinness designed the clear bathtub for Bibby several years ago for a televised segment, which has been used for subsequent attempts at the record for sitting in a tub with snakes.
“I have set several world records in that bathtub.” Bibby said.
Last year Bibby set a Guinness World Record by holding 10 rattlesnakes by their tails in his mouth at once. He said he hopes to break that record Tuesday by squeezing in an 11th, reports Yahoo News.
The Texas Snake Man also claims to hold non-certified records for climbing into a sleeping bag head first with 20 rattlesnakes and going in feet first with 112. Shudder!

omg there is no way i could do that. i can’t even watch snakes on tv, they just freak me out too much. My hat goes off to this guy, because that takes some guts.

They give me the willies too Gorilla. Have you watched Snakes on a Plane? I was able to get through that movie for some reason.
Seeing all those snakes gives me the creeps. That guy is pretty brave and lucky he didn’t get bit. Do you think they give the snakes some type of sedative or something before putting them in there?
Very lucky, Barbara, especially when you consider he was in the tub with them for about 45 minutes. Nothing was mentioned about any sedatives. I can’t imagine anyone handling that many snakes to do that myself. It could also affect the validity of the record, IMO.
