Surprising Statistics for Technology in Modern Day Classrooms

Considering the broad acceptance of modern technology in today’s schools, colleges, and universities, it’s rather startling to see the broad expanse between schools that have internet access, and those that actually use it in the classrooms. While 64% of US schools have internet access, just 14% of actual classrooms have internet access — with Delaware, New Mexico, Hawaii, and South Carolina leading the way at a full 100%.

Three US Universities have pulled all e-reader promos claiming that they create blindness. Yet The NACS (National Association of College Stores) reports that they expect textbook e-book markets to grow from 2% to 15% by 2012. In support of this rapid increase, seven US universities have been pilot testing Amazon Kindle as a textbook replacement.
Surprisingly, one professor claims that students who use laptops excessively did 11% worse in class than other students.
Three US universities have banned iPads over bandwidth issues. Many colleges and universities are currently charging students $500 fees to cover server and bandwidth upgrade costs.
