Hero, Guinness Record title owner for World’s Tallest Man, and recently wedded Bao Xishun was in the media once again Friday, when he shook hands with He Pingping who claims to be Earth’s shortest. It certainly wasn’t an unlucky Friday 13th for this pair of polar opposites.

Perhaps worlds apart in height, these 2 men actually hail from the same region of Inner Mongolia.

The historic meeting between Bao, 56, who stands 7 feet 8 inches (2.36 meters) tall, and He, 19, who only reaches 29.2 inches (73 centimeters) in height, took place in Baotou, in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Bao, a herdsman from Chifeng in Inner Mongolia, recently saved the lives of two dolphins by using his long lanky arms to reach down their throats and remove plastic shards from their stomachs.

Even more recently, Bao hit headlines across the world when he wedded 5 foot 6 inch saleswoman Xia Shujian, who only comes up to his elbow and is half his age. The couple married in a traditional Mongolian ceremony earlier this week.

Worlds_Tallest_Man_Meets_Worlds_Shortest_Man_3bBao was officially recognized as the world’s tallest man last year, beating the previous record holder, Radhouane Charbib of Tunisia, by a mere 2 millimeters. The tallest man ever was American Robert Pershing Wadlow, born in Alton, Illinois on February 22 1918, last measured at 8 feet 11.1 inches tall on June 27 1940.

How one man can create waves across the world with scores of breaking events in such a short span of his life is uncanny.

Daily Mail writes that He Pingping claims he was of normal height until he was 16 when he experienced a growth spurt and reached his present height seven years later. He was born nearby Bao Chifeng in Wulanchabu city, Inner Mongolia. His father claims he was only the size of an adult’s palm at birth.

He is now seeking to be registered as the world’s shortest man by the Guinness Book of Records, but could be in for a setback. While Mr Pingping is 29.2 inches tall, the current title holder Lin Yih-Chih was measured as 27 inches (67.5 centimeters).

UPDATE: A short clip has now been released for the event in which Bao Xishun shakes hands with He Pingping. Also added is the video covering the story on Bao Xishan when he saved a pair of dolphin’s lives.

    I saw this on the TV….last week…..Deborah…..very interesting and I know my son at 6′ 6″ is very handy when it comes to changing light bulbs and turning the fire alarm off…….

    Motordude, I thought He Pingping was adorable. Now that you mention it, it does seem as if people are handling him as if he was a pet or handicapped doesn’t it?

    He wouldn’t be able to as much as sit in a standard sized chair without assistance from someone. That in itself is a handicap. But he appears very special and has a ‘glow’ about him in the video, I’m sure he has a lot of friends to help.
