The Greatest Conspiracy Ever
The idea of a Flat Earth dates back as far as the early Greeks and when writers of the New Testament envisioned that the Earth actually stood on pillars.
Today, there are still firm believers who argue that the earth is flat. In spite of space travel, satellites in orbit, and round-the-world jet travel, their views fly in the face of 2,500 years of hard scientific evidence.
Modern day ‘Flat Earthers’ such as Wilbur Glenn Voliva (1870-1942) pictured right, insisted that the Earth was flat because the New Testament appeared to state it as gospel truth. He claimed that the Earth is indeed a flat disc, with the North Pole at its center, and the South Pole around the edge.

Here are a few ‘facts’ about the Flat Earth:

1. The diameter of the Flat Earth is 24,900 miles.

2. The Sun and the Moon are both 32 miles in diameter, orbiting midway between the North Pole and the South Pole mountainous range. The Sun radiates hot light, whilst the Moon radiates cold light. They both circle the Earth at a height of 3000 miles.

3. The Sun is in a continuous orbit, circling over the Flat Earth (see diagram above). Sunrises and Sunsets are all about perspective — the Sun moves further away and disappears, creating a sunset. As it comes back around, it creates a sunrise.

4. Satellites are not possible. Satellite broadcasts are actually from towers in strategic places around the Earth.

5. Gravity is caused by the upward acceleration of the Flat Earth at 1g. All the stars, moons, and planets are moving upwards along with it.

6. The ocean water does not run off the Flat Earth. Instead, it is contained on the Earth by the massive mountainous wall that lies along the edge of the Earth. This mountainous wall is estimated to be 150 feet high and covered in ice.

7. The tides are caused by the Flat Earth’s see-saw effect.

8. The horizon can be explained by performing an experiment. Take a basin half full of water and place the end of a pencil into it. If the pencil is tilted to one side, it can be observed that the pencil appears to bend as it enters the water. Reason being, depending upon the medium, the light travels at different speeds, causing the light rays to bend.
Over long distances, light rays passing through the atmosphere bend gradually away from the Earth and up into the sky, portraying the illusion of a horizon.

9. How can circumnavigation by ship of the Flat Earth be explained? Surely, if traveling from Europe to Australia, and then continuing to travel east, we should fall off the edge of the Earth. By using a compass and moving at a constant angle to the North Pole, travelers will eventually travel in a circle and return to their point of departure.

10. All governments in the world are all part of a single colossal conspiracy, and all the photos from NASA are fakes.
Convinced?
Another group has an interesting argument that the Earth is hollow, but that’s another story!

I was wondering where you got the information that the writers of the New Testament understood that the earth was held up by pillars? I’m unfamiliar with that belief especially since they had access to the Old Testament which says in Isaiah 40:22 –
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Mr. Voliva was obviously wrong, but it would be interesting to hear how he arrived at his belief.

…though it’s a great theory…..and I can understand why people would believe it…….the water not running off the edge is quite believable when you think about it….. 
I read a book last year titled, “Who Built The Moon?”, a very provocative, well-researched book. The moon holds many secrets.

The Earth is indeed flat, as is the entire universe, but nothing here explains why.
Everyone should know the Earth and universe is as Flat as a pancake based on advanced string theory.
It’s far too complicated to explain to three dimensional thinkers, so scientists don’t even bother to try.

Well, nobosy answered the first question posted:
What happens if you dig too deep?
Well, that’s obvious. If the Earth and all stars, planets, etc. are accelerating all in the same direction at 1G, and if you were to perforate the flat earth and be so unfortunate as to fall in your hole, you would obviously be left behind, but not to worry, because eventually all the atmosphere would drain out the hole you made. So you’d be pretty lost, but you’d still be able to breathe for awhile at least.

Greeks never say about pillars.Greeks was the first that said that earth was moving around the sun.Do not misunderstount what the Greeks said with what you are reading to New Testament because new testament it is not writen by the Greeks.If it was from Greeks the name of Jesus it goes to sount today like Apolon (apolonas)
