Twisted Students – Human Fireballs for Sport
Welcome back!
Canadian students are playing with fire — literally — setting each other ablaze for cheap thrills.

Some set their pants on fire, while others bare their stomachs, then squirt body spray or deodorant and torch themselves and each other with lighters and matches, according to Canada.com.
Ontario police said they’re aware that students are taking body sprays to school and lighting one another afire — usually for a few brief seconds.
The eye-opener came to light for this bizarre and precarious ‘sport‘ when the case of a 14 year old boy who suffered third degree burns to his stomach when a male student doused him with spray and set him on fire, reports Metro.

“This is a fairly common thing around the province.” said Constable Doug Graham from Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police.
‘We know parents are aware their children are taking the deodorant to school but they’re not aware that they are setting each other on fire.’ said Constable Graham.
A common occurrence you may ask? Well it’s certainly not the first.
It’s been noted that Canada’s first Prime Minister John A Macdonald — a champion drunk who was often seen publicly intoxicated — set Sir Charles Tupper ablaze, who had a questionable a reputation himself as an adulterer who supposedly succeeded in paying for his doctoral schooling by seducing older women.
The rumor alludes to a fight that ensued when Tupper insulted the fidelity of MacDonald’s wife for which he doused Tupper with kerosene and set him on fire.

In the street that I grew up in a child lost his leg when such a prank went badly wrong.
My own son thought it amusing to get up close and personal with a camp fire. With his back to it, he bent forward and sprayed cooking oil in between his legs towards the flames, shouting out “look mum I am going to light my farts” Thankfully he did not succeed.
The boys were very much into flatulence humor and competitions when young. Entering their bedrooms sometimes required a gas mask!
I really don’t know what happens in their heads, they must be bored to death. I have not (yet) heard about such a new “fashion” here in Belgium, but I know that in Germany it was use for some children to try to hang themselves until they fainted. Apparently the feeling was sooo nice. I think I had a leak of phantasy when I was that age, I prefered to danse and have fun with another kind of fire !
BTW I take the Cyber Cruise today to the Lake of Garda in Italy, so if you want to join us ….
I can relate to Sue and her boys……my son had an incident (with his cousin)….where he gave himself an “icy” by spraying deodorant on his leg….luckily he didn’t have matches !!!!!
I had never heard of anything like it and was appalled to think that it was a craze at the time….he still has a faint scar….
how come you don’t see girls doing these silly ..and often dangerous pranks ….
A great post and one that every parent should read……..Deborah…..
OMG Sue, how horrifying to lose his leg over a stupid prank! Luckily your son didn’t succeed with his stunt.
Boys can be so easily amused by bodily functions. Some adult males never grow out of it
At least you survived the bedroom incidents to tell the tale, haha.
Gattina, I’ve actually heard some stories in passing about people, even full-grown adults attempting to strangle themselves to near death for the experience. Some go too far over the edge and actually succeed in killing themselves. But I had no idea it was a ‘trend’ anywhere.
I’m with you, childhood thrills pale by comparison
Thanks for letting me know about your Cyber Cruise in Italy. I take it the link will be at Captain Lifecruiser’s? Or just follow your link to your site from your comment perhaps? I’m buried in paperwork over my head for the day, so even if I don’t make it today, I will definitely be there, and with bells on
Well that’s a new one on me Kim, an ‘icy’. I hadn’t thought that sprays would do that, but it makes sense. And to think it would burn severely like that! I can just see it too, calling each other out for being wimps.
Hehe, seems girls manage to maintain their level-headedness
Thanks Kim!
We have an expression out west to explain inappropriate behaviour – “They’re from Ontario!”
Hehe, I’m familiar with it, as I’m from the west myself Dan
Are they really stressed up to such extent? Playing with fire? So what is next? Pouring acid on each other to get higher level of thrill. Crazy people.
Do you old ladies have nothing better to do than complain about stuff you think that you are too stuck up your ass to think is funny
Those boys arent the only ones, and they dont always end with scars or loss of limb. I’m a seventeen year old girl who’s been setting herself and willing others on fire for roughly four to five years, plus. Be it at school or away, it will happen if only for lack of things to do. No one I’ve ever set on fire (myself included) have been burnt and had a scar. I’m from Oxford, Al.
In young ages like your son things seems working and doing such things are usual, well jessica your comment reminds me of my childhood,i was just like you.
Yes young people don’t think from brain they see world from heart so mistakes and mishappenings take birth very easily with them.

most foolish things I must say.
