Update Technorati Favorites Exchange Experiment
How do you stop a speeding train, let alone slow it down? Since Maki of Dosh Dosh started his Ultimate Technorati Favorites Exchange Experiment, there’s been no stopping it!
The first blog to jump on board dates back to April 9th. More than 2 weeks later, it still hasn’t fizzled out; in fact, it seems to be picking up steam. I have seen blogs that have started their own posts linking to Dosh Dosh’s experiment even today. Actually, I’m still adding to my list of bloggers that are running their own lists of bloggers, and adding favs to mine.
Who wouldn’t envy the position of being in the Top 100 list to receive exposure to their blog? It’s what many of us desire and dream of.
How long will it last? Who can tell?
What were the keys to Maki’s success? For one, I believe it’s because it wasn’t merely self-serving — he was bringing others along for the ride with him. And what a ride it’s been! His experiment is one that will be long remembered.
Another key to Maki’s success is his talent for writing compelling copy. Maki has worked as a freelance journalist, and has experience in Public Relations and marketing. His talents are more than apparent; both in this experiment he initiated, and in his great success with his blog.
How do you create staggering excitement in an experiment? By targeting what countless people desire — to be on top, and to make it attainable.
Some bloggers have the opinion that this has merely been gaming Technorati. The way I see it, is that it’s created a more level playing field for bloggers with excellent sites that haven’t been able to crack the lists to gain some deserving exposure.
It will all level out over time as blogs receive their justly rewarded favorites for excellent sites. You can’t be everything to everyone; those that have found their niche and are passionate for what they do will succeed. Those that don’t put their heart and soul into delivering what readers want will trail behind.
If you’re still on the Technorati bandwagon, there’s a useful widget that Mark Blair has developed, on SMOblog for a Technorati Favorites Button for Google Toolbar. You can add sites, search your Technorati Favorites, and view headlines from the RSS feed of your Technorati Favorites. Hot damn, it works like a charm! The only thing I haven’t tried is the RSS feature, since I haven’t installed one yet. I know, shame shame, but I’m techy challenged. I’ll get there!
One brief self indulgence (I loathe braggers and I’m not trying to brag) … I made it into the Technorati Top 100 Favorited Blogs, wheeee! Doin the Dance of Joy! Yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus! Thank you! Thank you!
Box office hits often compel movie producers to attempt to replicate others’ success. The first smash hit disaster movie spawned a litany of others; then there were action heroes, and others. Will this happen with Maki’s experiment? It already has!
Some bloggers have endeavored to replicate Maki’s success with other social media over the past few days. Will they be successful? It all depends on how well it’s initiated and run, and how much exposure they have to the blogosphere. Who isn’t game for increasing their readers? I know that I’ll be following them with interest!
And to Maki … I salute you! Cheers!
Please note:
I have moved some of the most recent additions from my original post to this one. There has been so much activity with comments that I’ve been receiving errors for ‘Stack Overflow’ when viewing comments. If this has been happening to me, then it must be happening to others.
I don’t want anyone to have a difficult time accessing sites that are involved in the Technorati exchange or have difficulty leaving comments, so we will continue on with this post. If you would like to view others involved from the original post, you can access the list from here. But please post your new comments on this page.

Thanks for the kind words, Deborah! And congrats on breaking into the Top 100!
I’ve very happy with how the experiment has turned out.. especially with how other bloggers are linking to each other even though there was no ‘rule’ to do so.
The camaraderie is very nice indeed and like you said, this benefits everyone and does give more exposure to blogs that deserved to be read
Thanks Maki. I think that this has benefited many bloggers.
Not only that, many of us have found new blogs that we like to read that we wouldn’t have found otherwise, as well as made some new friends. I know I have!

There was a auto fav tool floating around for Technorati. Do you know if it has been updated? BTW, I just faved you.
Digitalnomad, I’ve heard of the auto fave tool, but I’m not sure where to locate it. Kim at Laketrees might know, since she was using it in the past :

OK, Thaks to add me; I add your site in my preferites, but I’d like you answer to me one thing: You have too many votes in technorati, a beautiful blog full of content, but I saw your Page Rank and is 0!!!! Why? I don’t understand. The only thing is Google banned you from PR; do you know more? (If you know anser me, please write a little comment on my blog; bye from italy and thanks for all)
Thanks so much Blogmaster
I sent you a message, but just for clarification, I can understand why you would wonder that.
I started my blog on April 1 2007, and just missed the last PR update. The next one should be happening soon, so that will change
Hope this doesn’t come out as a double post. Please delete if it does. Added you to my faves. Here’s my link if you don’t mind:
