Welcome back!

Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS) is in development stages for the very first deep-sea observatory ever, that will be able to explore the deep sea oceans. Completion is scheduled for later this year according to a DailyTech article.

Deep-Sea

A 32 mile cable will be installed along the Monterey Bay ocean floor. It will be able to power robots, cameras, and other scientific instruments up to 3,000 feet below the ocean surface for long durations. Cable will be buried at least three feet below the sea floor to avoid disturbance from boat anchors and debris. Picture posted by kmac123

The cable will provide continuous power supply which will permit equipment to remain on the ocean floor for months or years, and provide ocean scientists with continuous data from instruments and experiments in the deep sea. This advance will afford ocean engineers to develop new types of deep-sea instruments, under sea robots and environmental monitoring.

Like renditions from the show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea! Here’s a classic one:

The Mermaid
The sea monsters’ effects are hilarious!

  1. It must have been military regulations in the sixties for guys to jump on the backs of creatures bigger than them. Everyone did it. :)

  2. Perhaps they didn’t have as much to fear until the likes of Alien with Sigourney Weaver…and the invention of the REAL Warrior Woman. Sorry Wonder Woman, she’s got you beat by a mile.
