Worlds Largest Champagne Fountain
Welcome back!
At 43,000 glasses and counting, an attempt is underway of the free-flowing bubbly to break the world record for the ‘Largest Champagne Fountain’ in the Wijnegem shopping center near Antwerp — we’re assuming Belgium.
The 22.9 foot (7 meter) high pyramid of glasses weighing 19,590 pounds (8,750 kilos) will attempt to break the record held by Luuk Broos, director of Maison Luuk-Chalet Fontain.
Luuk’s 56-story champagne fountain was made from 30,856 traditional long-stem glasses at the Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen, Netherlands on December 30 1999.
Our best guestimate to fill the glasses will require approximately 1981 gallons (7,500 liters). It may be easier said than done to calculate how many hours that would take, but Life in the Fast Lane would love to be there to pour.
Even more arduous would be working out the complexity of designing and then constructing the convoluted arrangement in some form of mathematical pattern.
A champagne fountain no matter what the size would make for a wildly entertaining conversation piece for any bash you care to throw for your zany friends and family alike. But we here at Fast Lane would also like to get the invite.

The question is why?
People really need new hobbies.
so when does it start operating?
Wow! I’ve never seen anything quite like this…very cool!
Yes, I see it and I am getting drunk.
Amazing.
If a party were to be held for 43,000 people, the last one to be offered a drink would have died of thirst! Or perhaps in the mad scramble for a drink, the tower would topple over and many would be drinking off the floor.
This is a fun place to be. Somebody make sure Jacky Chan is not given an invitation! –Durano, done!
Haha, I’ve given up asking the question why many years ago, Webrunner
Roshan, the photos were released last Friday, so my guess would be that the event happened over the weekend. Nothing more was available than a couple of sentences that I could find anywhere.
I think it would be a lot of fun watching the pouring, Snitterdog. And even moreso getting your hands on a few filled glasses
Haha, I’m feeling light-headed just thinking of it myself, Mig
Oh, no doubt it would take hours to dole out that many glasses, Durano. Worth the wait? Hehe, I won’t tell Jacky if you don’t
That’s crazy! It’s so big! I agree with webrunner, people have too much time on their hands!
In some of the pictures the glasses kinda look like bubble wrap.
Keep posting and I’ll be sure to come back and see what other odd things people are up to!
True, Jason
Thanks, look forward to seeing you back
Yep, he won.
