Worlds Largest Horse

Measuring at 19 hands and 2 inches, Digger is used to looking down on the world as Britain’s largest horse. At just 4 years old — in equine terms a teenager — the burly Clydesdale is eating and growing his way into becoming contender for the world’s record largest steed.

In fact, Digger is so brawny that his handler Lisa McFarlane has difficulties to record his exact size. With his head up he measures close to 9 feet tall. Horses are conventionally measured in 4-inch ‘hands’ from the ground to the withers — the highest point of the back just before the animal’s neck — for Digger, that’s about 6 feet 6 inches.
He measures 8 feet 5 inches (3.05 meters) from his ears to the top of his tail, and his hooves are 15 inches (35 centimeters) across.
Digger is now ‘neck and neck’ with Cracker, a shire horse in Lincolnshire measuring 19 hands and 2 inches in 2005. Tina, a shire from Tennessee, was dubbed tallest horse in the world last year, standing in at 20 hands.

The floppy-fringed Shire horse was an orphan and didn’t have the best of starts in life. He was taken in to International League for the Protection of Horses’ Belwade Farm in Aboyne, Scotland, shortly before Christmas after his owners could no longer cope to look after him due to their serious health problems.
Despite his former intricacies, Digger has grown strong and healthy, weighing 1,980 pounds (900 kilos), eating 3 times more than an ordinary horse, and drinking between 20 to 25 gallons of water a day.
He devours 42 to 55 pounds (19 to 25 kilos) of food a day, including 3 servings of cereal grain, and chomps through a 4 foot bale of hay every 2 days. Treats include his daily morning chocolate muffin, plus gifts from visitors — about 4 apples or carrots per day.
Digger is covered at night to keep cozy with a 7 foot 9 inch long blanket. The strapping stallion is so sizeable that has to be transported by a specialized truck.

Farm manager Eileen Gillen said, “He is the largest horse we have ever had. He is the equivalent of a growing teenage boy — never out of the fridge. Heaven knows what size he is going to end up.”
Though some may find Digger’s size daunting and intimidating, he’s made best friends at the farm with Sweep — a 12 year old mini Shetland pony who stands merely 34 inches (85 centimeters) tall, and can walk straight under Digger’s belly.

Clydesdale horses originated from the valley of the River Clyde and developed as a breed in the early 1700′s.
They have typically been used as work horses on farms and for long distance haulage, due to their magnitude in size and muscular power.
The average Clydesdale’s life span is between 20 to 25 years.

i love horses and i have seen the biggest horse in the world it is about a meter taller then this 1 lol

Sorry for the late reply, Kozziosko, there have been circumstances which have prevented me from getting to the site here the past several days.
This is news to me that there is yet another horse larger than this one, but to be one meter taller, that’s quite amazing.
HOLY COW THAT HORSE IS HUGE and i’ve seen big horses but that one makes them look like ponies XD wow i already have to go one the back of my truck and put a stool on the truck and get on my horse lol my tallest horse is almost 18.5 hh he is a gental giant XD

One of my lads is a shire X thoroughbred, he stands at 17.2hh and is a gental giant, most of the giant horses are delicate to us, it’s incredible. I really do wonder how you feel when you go on a large horse and go on a stand to be even higher, aren’t you scared of a foot being misplaced or something, hehe, you must have nerves of steel, really admire your courage to do that
i think it’s 17.2 anyway, has been a while since we measured him and we dont have the ideal measuring stick, but he is large

The lady needed to kick the pony emma. the working through things with horses doesnt always work in some cases it is what you should do but once a horse learns what they are meant to do like tricks the animals preform they need to do it no questions asked because horses were put on this earth for humans and we all love our horses but at the end of the day they still are meant to earn there keep within a bussiness and within everyday life on a ranch. now if the horse had never done the stuff before then it would be different they are beasts of burden and all my horses earn there meal or else they dont stay in my barn. they are to expensive to feed and not have a use for the animal.

That is a huge horse. How much does that thing weigh. i didn’t really read it weel because that requires reading. so please tell me. Thanks! Anyway I would be afraid of that horese because it is so huge and i would be afraid that it would step on me and kill me. If that would fall or step on someone that would immediately kill them or smash them into really little peices.

well today i had a ride on my sisters horse cos my horse was going in a compation but my sisters horse is 17.4 hh i love him he is jet black . i think aniamals are amazing things i hav 7 working dogs and 1 guard dog which is a massive dog he is very strong looking and very very tall his name is rex.then i hav about 53 birds and 1 pigeon so 54 birds lolz. and not to talk bout the fish hahaha. well dont worry about the reaply cos im not going back on this site because i will foget it.
He is beautiful and looks almost shy at being so big! Still growing too….

i have rode a 17 hand and 6 inches horse weeere i take lessons he is a big baby and very calm and young. he is a belguim horse i am 4′ 10″ and i can almost walk under neath him. i need a 3 step mounting block and a leg up just 2 get one him and can bearly get on him doing that. i have rode him bareback 3 times and he is the best horse ever.
this horse is the prettiest thing i have ever seen in my life i have 25 horses and this one is huge one of mine is like 1 foot shorter then this one

I do have 70 horses but none like this we do have a Draft horse that is the biggest we got.
ha that big tina. thats my girl, I got the opertunity to work with her, i loved tina. when i herd about her death i bursted into tears. I got to be around this big girl for a while. i miss her, it is so heart breaking that she has past on. i wish i was able to say goodbye to everyone at the barn before i moved to PA. That was a big part of my life, i am very lucky to have had been able to work beside big tina and everyone at the barn, i miss everyone even the horses like buddy, cosby he was alwas a troubly maker, him n thunder, in the paster, Jay Jay a lil shetland mix, he was a halter show horse he always loved steeling my food when on my klunch break, champ. was a cute lil boy, i miss everyone

what a lovely looking horse, i have a number of clydesdales, shires and cobs i have a certain one that stands out from the rest, his name is teddy, hes a clydesdale cross shire and weighs in at 1250 kilos an more importantly he is 6ft 7.5inch (19.3hh) at the withers, hes only a 4 year old baby, im currently waiting for the guiness book of records to officially check his height an weight so watch this space p.s can i post any pics of him on this site, thanks

is digger in the horse welfare or somthing like that because i was reading pony mag and he was in there with a donkey but they sed he was only 19h then it was defanately him though
